Mid August is here and with the return of the warm summer weather, it's officially trolling time at South Lake. Most of the anglers who scored good numbers of fish were going deep for them. The downrigger and lead core folks were doing best finding the fish suspended in about 30ft of water. Flashers with a nightcrawler was by far the best trolling tactic but Red/Gold Thomas Bouyants, small Rapalas and Gold Kastmasters also produced.
The bite at the inlets is still going strong but it certainly has slowed down a bit compared to the bite in weeks past. Still fishing is much better early in the morning or late in the afternoon/evening. Salmon Peach Powerbait and Chunky Cheese are still the best dough baits by far with Gulp Eggs and Nightcrawlers also doing some damage for bait dunkers. The mini-jig guys are still scoring some good numbers behind the island, as are the folks fishing the orange Gulp Trout Worms.
The lake is still near capacity but the lake level has begun to fall a few inches a day. Still, with the level its at, we're likely to see the boat launch open well into October this year if Edison continues to pull the same amount of water out of the lake.
