Fishing:
South Lake received the first DFG plant of the season this week and fishing continued to be excellent despite afternoon thunderstorms with occasionally heavy rain and pea-sized hail. Anglers who braved the elements found the hot spots to be along the rock slide and the at the dam. Crawlers floated with an orange or red Gulp Egg was the best bait this week. Plastics like Gulp Trout Worms and Powerworms in Orange, Pink or Yellow also produced a lot of fish for boaters. The first lead core trollers of the season had an excellent day on Saturday pulling Thomas Bouyants and Needlefish at two to four colors along the west shore of the lake. There weren't any lunkers caught this week but we did get reports of some boats catching multiple fish in the 2lb class. The Bishop Creek Canyon Summer Classic Derby is set to start on Monday June 1st and the lake will receive a plant of Alpers trout today.

Water Conditions:
The water level at South Lake is still rising but now that the back part of the lake is under water, the rise has slowed considerably. It will probably be another week before it will be safe to take a boat back there. The launch ramp is still high and dry and it will take some time before it is open to private boaters.
