The water level at South Lake is finally up to the point where private boaters can launch boats up to 17ft long. The area behind the island is 8-10ft deep now and the fish are stacked up at the inlets. The hot spot for Alpers has been the Gilbert Glacier inlet but both the Long Lake inlet and the Treasure Inlet are also holding big fish.

The big fish are still prefering nightcrawlers or plastic baits like Lip Ripperz Jigs or Berkley Powerworms but trollers hauling flashers with a nightcrawler trailer mid-lake are still hitting the best numbers of fish. Shore fishing has been a little on the slow side now that the fish are able to move to the inlets.

The DFG is now able to stock the lake weekly which has helped to keep the bite strong. A double load of Alpers is planned for next week to match the plant courtesy of Southern California Edison that went in just prior to the Independence Day holiday. Thank you Edison!

Also of note, the Bishop Creek Canyon Fall Classic is coming up in September. Throughout the month of September Inyo County & the Bishop Chamber of Commerce will be planting a big load of Alpers trout including several tagged trout worth up to $500. For the fall derby, all canyon waters including Bishop Creek will be planted with tagged fish!!!!
