Report: another week of fishing the Northern Channel Islands in the books! With it we saw conditions change to what we would expect in mid-November. Water cooled, game fish tough to find, and the return of Anchovy. Water temperatures are in the mid to low 60’s and fish are just not eating as often. But, we are still seeing lots of fish and most exciting is we are seeing them pop up in new locations. In fact, the outer islands seem to be the place if you want to catch a Yellowtail these days. They are nice fat fish too, averaging 25 pounds and large models over 30 pounds. With cool water moving in you would think the bass bite would take a hit, but that was not the case today. One of our captains said he hadn’t seen such good Calico fishing all year. So, as we get deeper into this fall/winter fishing, there is still plenty of fish to be caught!
Today’s Fish Count: 9 Boats and 175 Anglers
1,876 Rockfish, 802 Whitefish, 90 Lingcod, 89 Sheephead, 59 Calico Bass, 6 Bonito, 1 Sole, and 26 Yellowtail.
