Report: Today marks the end of another week of fishing our beautiful Channel Islands. This season is flying by so fast; it’s no surprise we already find ourselves at the end of October! Much like the entire month, the fishing today was solid. We are still catching game fish while loading the gunny sacks with Whitefish and Rockfish. We did have one unusual catch this afternoon though. The Sea Jay had a private charter with a group that only uses fly-fishing tackle. This is not what was unusual though. It was what one lucky angler hooked and brought aboard. A Rainbow Runner is a fish found very rarely in these parts. This specie is widespread throughout the world, but typically found in tropical and subtropical waters, like those off the coast of Baja. It’s probably not the first Rainbow Runner caught in these waters, but defiantly the only caught by our fleet possibly ever. The fact that it was caught on a fly rod made it an even more impressive catch!

1,210 Rockfish, 340 Whitefish, 65 Lingcod, 31 Sheephead, 3 Sole, 62 Calico Bass, 9 Perch, 7 Yellowtail, 1 Spanish Jack, and 1 Rainbow Runner.
