The Tundra & Lightning Fishing Tournament will be held this Sunday, Feb. 25, at Corona Lake, and the angler catching the largest trout during the one-day event will win a free, six-day, five-night all expenses-paid fishing trip to Hotel Punta Colorada in Cabo San Lucas during the peak of the roosterfish season provided Quality Toyota of Corona and 976-TUNA.com.

All anglers fishing at Corona on Sunday of the tournament will be eligible for the big fish prize, and everyone will also receive five raffle tickets when they come through the gate for a massive prize drawing. Quality Toyota of Corona will also give away free entrance to the tournament for first 300 anglers who come to see and test drive the brand new super full-sized Toyota Tundra. You will also get a bonus five raffle tickets for the drawing. Quality Toyota is located at 1685 W. Sixth St., Corona. Take a test drive and fish free -- and get double raffle tickets.

The trout action at Corona Lake has been excellent this past week with a very good bite on the Lightning Trout which were planted last Wednesday night. Lightnings will be stocked again this week and next week, and there will be a bonus plant of trophy Lightning and rainbows planted this week for the trout tournament on Saturday.

The biggest rainbow was a 19-pounder landed by Ken Wendell, Whittier, fishing chartreuse Nitro Bait near the dam. Trout at 13 pounds were landed by Don Mitchell, Redlands, and Jason Northrop, Temecula. Tony Dacosta, Torrance, caught 10 rainbow to 12 pounds, and Aaron Sappenfield, Murrieta, also had a 12-pounder. Sally Mitchell, Redlands, caught an 11-pounder.

Boat anglers are seeing the best action, and the top bait combination is still chartreuse Nitro Bait doused with corn-flavored Nitro Gravy.

Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The lake's 24-hour passes will be available one weekend a month, usually on the Friday and Saturday night nearest the full moon. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.
