New summer hours are in effect , starting April 1st?? the lake will now be open until 8pm. We are stocking the bonus load for the season on Tuesday, April 3, 2007. This will be the last stocking for the year of our beautiful Alpers rainbow trout until this coming Novemeber.
Trout fishing this past week has been awesome. Some anglers have gotten their limit within two hours in the morning. Boats have been the most productive & shore anglers have been doing well. For the shore the best spots have been next to the concession building to the point & at the launch ramp. The boats have been doing very well mid-lake in front of the dock, three pipes, & in the flats. Trolling by the dam has been good also.
The best baits to use have been fly lining a ?? nightcrawler with scent (on a boat), multi-colored powerbaits, & power worms.
Bass:
The bass fishing has been great all along the shore line, around the dock & island. Best access if in a boat. Anglers are reporting catching & releasing up 25 nice size bass in the 2-4 lbs range. Nightcrawlers, plastics and lures have been the best baits.
Fly fishermen:
The fly fishing has been good in the flats & mid lake in front of the dock. The zebra midge and the olive with gold bead have been the best to use.
